Quick answer
F3 on a Kenmore range means a stuck key on Elite 721 models and an oven temperature sensor problem on 362 and 790 models.
Model compatibility
Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F3 Stuck key or oven temperature sensor may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What thiscode means
Stuck key on Elite 721 models; oven temperature sensor failure on 362 and 790 models.
F3 has two different meanings on Kenmore ranges, and which one applies depends on the model number.
Elite 721 electric and double-oven gas ranges: stuck key
On Kenmore Elite ranges with model numbers starting 721, F3 is a stuck key message. It shows on the affected control display, either the oven or the cooktop control. For the cooktop control, unplug the range and check the ribbon wire connection between the control panel and the cooktop control board. If F3 appears on the oven control, check the control panel ribbon wire connection on the oven control board. Reconnect a loose ribbon wire, then press all keys on the affected control from different angles to free the stuck key. Reassemble the range and plug it back in. If the code resumes, a technician runs a further test with the ribbon wire disconnected to decide between the control board and the control panel.
362 and 790 freestanding ranges: oven temperature sensor
On the Kenmore 362 model freestanding range, F3 means the oven temperature sensor is defective, electrically open. On the Kenmore 790 freestanding ranges, both self-cleaning and manual-cleaning, F3 is an oven temperature sensor failure. The manual has the range unplugged and the sensor circuit measured with a meter, which is a technician’s check. The outcome is a new sensor, and on some models a new wire harness or electronic control board.
