Quick answer
F8 on a Kenmore Elite 721 electric range points to the upper oven temperature sensor.
Model compatibility
Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F8 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What thiscode means
F8 means a defective upper oven temperature sensor.
F8 on a Kenmore Elite electric range with a model number starting 721 means the upper oven temperature sensor is defective. On this series the same sensor fault can also appear as F1 or F2.
The sensor test
With the range unplugged, the upper oven temperature sensor is measured for resistance. A good sensor reads 1,090 ohms at room temperature, which is 77 degrees F. Should the reading be off by more than 100 ohms, that sensor is replaced.
The meter is a technician’s tool, so owners should unplug the range and stop there.
Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
