Quick answer
F91 on a Kenmore range means the maximum number of oven door unlock attempts was exceeded, or a door lock failure on glass touch and slide-in models.
Model compatibility
Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F91 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What thiscode means
Maximum oven door unlock attempts exceeded, shown as an oven door lock failure on some series.
The control counted too many tries at unlocking the oven door. That is what F91 reports on Kenmore electric freestanding self-cleaning ranges with a 790 prefix (2004 and newer) and on Kenmore self-cleaning electric ranges from 2014.
Technician checks for those ranges
The manual sends the work to the door lock motor and its microswitch. A technician inspects the wiring, checks whether the latch cam, rod or lock motor cam binds, and replaces the lock motor assembly when its coil is open. If the motor never stops running while the microswitch is open, the oven door latch motor assembly is the part to change. When all of that checks out, the electronic oven control board is replaced.
Glass touch and slide-in models
On a Kenmore electric freestanding range with a glass touch panel, or an Elite slide-in gas or dual-fuel range numbered 790.3263, 790.3264, 790.4260, 790.4261, 790.4275 or 790.4276, F91 is listed simply as an oven door lock failure. The manual advises these steps.
Remove power for 30 seconds and switch it back on.
Use the lockout feature or a clean cycle to try the lock once more.
Press cancel if the door did not release.
When the motor is silent, look at the harness between the lock assembly and the oven control board, then move on to the lock assembly itself.
F94: the maximum lock attempts were exceeded, the locking twin of F91.
