Quick answer
F90 on a Kenmore range reports that the oven door unlock time was exceeded or that the door lock failed, depending on the series.
Model compatibility
Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F90 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What thiscode means
Maximum oven door unlock time exceeded, shown as an oven door lock failure on some series.
F90 is one of the oven door lock codes on Kenmore ranges. What it means depends on the series, so find your model number before you start.
790-prefix self-cleaning electric ranges (2004 and newer) and 2014 self-cleaning models
On these ranges F90 means the maximum oven door unlock time was exceeded, so the door did not unlock in the time allowed. The manual’s checks are mostly technician work.
Check the wiring between the electronic oven control board and the lock motor microswitch.
Look for binding in the latch cam, the lock motor rod and the lock motor cam.
Replace the lock motor assembly if its coil is open. Replace the oven door latch motor assembly if the motor runs nonstop while the microswitch is open.
If none of that solves it, the electronic oven control board is replaced.
Glass touch electric ranges and Elite slide-in gas or dual-fuel ranges
This group covers Kenmore electric freestanding ranges with a glass touch panel, and Kenmore Elite slide-in gas or dual-fuel ranges with model numbers 790.3263, 790.3264, 790.4260, 790.4261, 790.4275 and 790.4276. Here F90 is a general oven door lock failure.
If the door will not lock or unlock, disconnect power, wait 30 seconds and restore power. Then try to lock it again with the oven lockout feature or by starting a clean cycle. If the door would not unlock, press the cancel button.
If the lock motor does not run, disconnect power again and check the wire harness connections between the door lock assembly and the oven control board. Reconnect loose wires, or replace the harness if it is damaged. With sound wiring, the door lock assembly is replaced next, and the relay control board after that if the problem continues. The glass touch range follows the same order: unplug, check the harness, replace the lock assembly, then the electronic oven control board.
